Story choices that actually matter in mobile RPGs
Branching narrative is a phrase slapped on a lot of games that don't really earn it. Usually your 'choice' just changes a line of dialogue and everyone ends up in the same room anyway.
Ashvale Chronicle is one of the rare ones where a decision early on genuinely changes who's in your party later. I replayed its second act specifically to watch the ripple effects, and they were real, not cosmetic.
Real choice requires a game to accept that you might miss content. That's scary for developers who want everyone to see their best scenes, so most hedge. The ones that commit are worth seeking out.
If you love this kind of design, save often and don't be afraid to make the uncomfortable choice. The interesting branches are rarely behind the polite option.
